Relationship / Couple Counselling
It's easier to fall in love than stay in love, because over time, staying in love requires a whole lot more than those initial romantic feelings. For example, a long-desired, brand-new car will bring a lot of joy initially, but over time, the owner will need to invest time and money to keep it sparkling, as well as re-fueling, regular maintenance and repairs to keep it on the road.
Similarly, healthy, loving relationships don't just happen. Every couple will need to keep renegotiating their relationship within the context of subtle or powerful socio-cultural, occupational, economic, religious, political, environmental and other forces. Everyone's ability to do this successfully may be hampered over time by conscious or unconscious processes informed by the past, present or even the future. Relationship counselling provides a caring, supportive, non-judgmental space for couples to explore thoughts, feelings and actions that could be causing, maintaining or contributing to their relationship problems.
Relationship / Couple counselling can also be a preventive measure to help couples prepare for real or perceived threats to their relationship. It can help individuals in the relationship grow in self-awareness, self-confidence, communication and other interpersonal skills that will serve them well in another endeavour.
